    This depends from person to person. I for one like Indian classical or light classical more than western music. One reason of my liking Indian music could be that I do not understand western well.

    We do not need to know anything about music for light songs- Indian or western. Some knowledge is needed for classical music. Classical music may be Orient as well as western.
