Hello Friends,

You might have watched lawn tennis matches.

Do you know why the player tosses the ball on the surface of the court (ground) 2-3 times and then serves with the same ball.

The player discard some tennis balls after the tosses.

What exactly the player check by this practice?

He/she checks the bounce achieved for the ball, on the playing area. so as to get an idea how much energy is to be applied while hitting.

Please tell me if I am right. also correct me if I go wrong.

Hello Atul Barapatre,

I am not an expert on sports. I posted this question just for all of us to discuss on this point; because, this action of tennis players is quite prominent.

Yes you are right that they check the bounce.

In addition they check whether the bouncing angle is right or not. If you toss it vertically it must bounce back to your fist.
