Role of 'President of India'
I think whatever he/she does is symbolic. Just to keep senior politicians happy or out of the way, they find them a nice cozy way to live. You are happy, I am happy. The story is finished.

President should have the power to preserve,
protect and defend the Indian Constitution.

He is considered as first man of nation and should protect the rights of every citizen. He has power and and should act as neutral now.

President acts only on advice of Union council of ministers and not on his own. The only occasion when he acts independently is when he invites somebody to the role or Prime Minister. When a party or alliance has clear majority, his job is simple. Otherwise, he has to probe possibility of a viable and stable government. Except this, his discretion is limited.

I know this thing a little bit but now by this topic i know a lot about president..................
It is unfortunate that press and media are still talking and approaching President Pranab Mukherjee as if he were still holding Finance portfolio.

It will be best if President is spared by media and allowed to restrict himself to his role as head of state. He need not comment on policy matter of Government of India. He should also no be so instigated.

President plays a vital role.Their duty is to protect the lives of the citizen of the country.

i don't think there is much of a role of a president of India he is like a puppet of ruling government most of the time.
Presently Pranab Mukherjee is President of India. He is very well performing his duty. Hopefully he will prove himself as the best.
As of now, of course one can hardly see or hear the President except when there is a felicitation ceremony.Pranab Mukherji is doing what he is best at - staying behind the scenes and the Gandhis, nothing much can be expected from him...

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!
