I dont know where i did a mistake. anyways captain is the incharge of the crew . He does'nt drive the ship.Who steers the ship i heard it is called helmsman but not too sure. I my self need the answer.

This is known as helmsman who steers the ship. I think you got your answer. BTW Captain of the ship is over all incharge he guides crew how to do it.

Aeroplane can also be written as airplane. the mistake i made is to write pilot i wrote pilate. its may be due to pronunciation i pronounce

I think this is the reason why the term 'at helms of affairs' is used for key persons who direct a company or any organization.

Hi sharon, The term helmsman is old when ships were not sophisticated and were comparitively smaller.But now the ships are very large, average cargo carriers have nothing less than 16,000 tonnes or more capacity and large oil tankers are in the range of 100,000 tonnes and more...So, it is not possible to have a 'driver' for a ship....
There is a whole team working on the ship divided into deck side and engine side- The deck side consists of people on the bridge keeping watch and sending signals to the engineers in the engine room who are below the sea level in the engine room.
The deck side is managed by a team of deck side officers who have Captain as the head of the team and the engineers team has Chief Engineer as the head and both are as important and needed to run a ship, along with a radio officer who is also part of the team...
