Hello Friends

This is little weird problem. One of my friend is having joint family. In Uncle and they used to share same house. My friends family is living up stairs and his uncle's family is living at ground floor. Both are totally separate for all financial transactions and business.

Now problem his uncle had land line and he didn't paid the total bill for whatever the reason. So his phone got disconnected. Now my friends want to have landline phone but now BSNL is saying that as address and home is same they can't have the land line phone.

I wonder if there is any solution for this.

BSNL is right and has right to deny in such cases, otherwise people will start using their services without paying and later applying with a new name. They can only continue the connection by paying balance and penalty.

There can be more than one phone at same address. Once my tenant had separate land line phone for his portion although address is same. Deptt of Telecom did not even ask for landlord's consent and hence I had no responsibility for payment of his bills.

Your friend will apply in his name and he has no connection with his uncle's phone which is in separate residential area in same house. Just need to take up matter with higher authorities in BSNL. If possible, he should persuade his uncle to pay the outstanding bill.

@Suni.. But what if he is totally separate with his uncle. I mean yes they sharing same house but business and spending are totally separate. So why should he pay in behalf of his uncle.

@Gulshanji.. I have told him the same. But he told me that he don't want to force his uncle for this thing. But yes he should get the connection as he is totally separate from his uncle financially. May be things can workout if he talked to higher authorities. I will tell him for it.

BSNL does not agree to another phone while the existing one is unpaid because all residing in the same accommodation are treated as one unit. Your friend needs to prove that in fact, his uncle and he are separate. If there are separate electricity connection and ration cards, gas connections, separate house tax liability, BSNL may agree.

I guess they have many of them separate. And he already saw few of them to BSNl, but still they denied.

You just have to show some proof that the two dwellings are seperate ...I have a neighbor who has two lines in her home one for her and one for her tenant who is occupying just two rooms in the house. It is possible to do that ...

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

It is possible to have 4 lines in the same household in different names but not after a case of disconnection of non payment takes place. I had been associated with the department indirectly during my job, therefore can tell you about it so certainly. Otherwise even four brothers occupying a single room can have any number of telephones with proper proof of residence.

Suni is right in this case. Even my friend told me the same reason that BSNL is giving him. So I guess there is no choice for him.

It appears that BSNL treats same house as a unit for non payment of phone bills. If separate house tax is assessed and paid for different portions of the house, BSNL could be convinced for another phone not linking this to the existing one.

That is also possible but the house number should be different in this case like some one having 100/1 and another one having 100/2 because even house tax cannot be levied twice on the same house having same number unless the owner has a clear house map etc provided to municipal department. In case of telephone department they ask for house number only and it should be different even if by fractionating it.
