It is the council of ministers that is responsible for all decisions headed by prime minister, ours is the parliamentary form of government, nevertheless many elections are fought on the basis of personality from the time Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv and Vajpayee, now Modi and Rahul, it is one of the most keenly contested election as there are many issues out there.

I know it is parliamentary form in our country but we are doing everything un-parliamentary here. That is the reason we needed this thread. I don't think there is a contest of principles here but it is persons, cast, tribes and personal influence in our election system. You never know the result as it is not on set norms. The agenda which sounds most important today, suddenly might fly away into thin air on election day.
It is all about reaching magic figures, India is a complex class of societies and unpredictable, it is politicians who are going to experiment and those do it correctly win will.

Every one should be responsible but PM is most responsible to run a country smoothly.
When an individual in the normal course of events reaches the highest cadre , being the central ministry and also a probable PM he or she would have gone through a lot of hard work and come face to face with people and their problems, which has not been the case with our now PM , who looks and behaves as if he is in a trance most of the time...Similarly the one the congress party is trying to thrust on the nation is anything but committed except carrying the family name on his forehead. So age here really doesnt play any part ! What is needed is a rounded personality with age and experience and more than anythig a clean record...

The P.M. has undoubtedly a very long record of government service at top level and also handling finance portfolio in union cabinet and later as Prime minister. The performance of government is collective responsibility of ruling party leadership and union cabinet. We are in habit of talking about individuals only- Sonia Gandhi, Manbmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Modi, Advani and so on. Nobody bothers about responsibility of organization. Many may like Congress under Rahul and not somebody else. Same is in BJP where not the organization and collective responsibility but one man- Modi or Advani or who else- is the issue.

Manmohan Singh no doubt has a long record of government service at top level and finance ministry but has never been a people man, since he has never been elected by people , not having contested an ellection ! It is essential for the leader of the country to be people friendly instead of mumbling when he feels like....

A case of misuse of a person who was one of the best in his field.

A worthy and brilliant person like Manmohan Singh should get away from the cess pool of corruption. A person who was instrumental in bringing out economic reforms that helped the country in a big way should know that his honesty is misused by the people around him .

Nobody can prevent such 'misuse'. Actually we expect too much from a single person. This is our tradition. when we are in difficulty, we always hope that some 'avatar' or 'Savior' God- incarnation would save us. Many expect that 'Modi' or 'Rahul' would perform miracles. There is need for collective responsibility and giving more importance to organization and avoid personality cult. It is personality cult that gives rise to many issues including corruption.

Yes we expect that much from a person if he happens to be PM of this country. If it was not an important post, we did not need a PM but 'all ministers' could do the job. Every country has a head of government and he is responsible for everything..

all cabinet ministers are equal but PM is first among equals. Cabinet is collectively responsibility. In fact, any minister has to resign if he strongly disagrees with a cabinet decision taken by majority of ministers. The PM is also bound by majority decision in the cabinet even if he personally disapproves. If he is very strongly opposed to decision of majority in the cabinet particularly when his party also opposes his contrary opinion, he cannot thrust his views on his colleagues and as an alternative he must submit resignation of his council of ministers after which his party may choose alternative leader.

Is it necessary to set a minimum qualification of our politicians to qualify for elections? It can be different for different seats for different elections.
We can set high school for local bodies and for state and national elections a degree in any subject. Do we have enough degree holders in our parliament and state assemblies? Any idea of education of your local MP or MLA?

Former Railway Minister of India and Former Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav is convicted and jailed today. Punishment will be announced soon it seems.

Born to express, not to impress.
