Today is Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel's birthday. This is day we remeber with pride this great hero and first Deputy P.M. and Home minister. He played major role in uniting the country that was divided in hundreds of princely states.

It is good that a statute to commemorate this great leader is being built. The controversy on his heritage by political parties is unfortunate. Though a Congress leader, he belonged to whole nation.

Sardar is a true definition of "leader". I remember faintly the famous "Police action" that was undertaken with his leadership to annexe Hyderabad state. The Nizam was adamant and refused to give away. But he could not stand before the lion hearted Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. Such leaders and such Home ministers are the pride of the country.

Most of freedom fighters are belongs to nation. It is not good to associate them with a particular political party. Today is also death anneversiry of Indira Gandhi.

I agree. But politicians should not make controversial statements. Modi said that things would be different if Sardar Patel were first P.M. Well. It is okay. There is no issue if Patel and not Nehru were first P.M. However Modi forgot that Patel died just six months after Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. In that case Patel would have died as first P.M. but thereafter Nehru would continue as P.M. How.could just about one year tenure make difference. Even as Deputy P.M. and Home minister Patel did a yeoman service to unite the nation.
