Why don't Indian women get along with their mother in laws?

It is said that a woman understands another woman better. If that is the case why is it that married women and their mother in laws are usually enemies in our country? I am yet to come across a married woman who gets along well with her mother in law. :dry:

    The main reason for this enmity between a daughter -in- law and a Mother-in-law is,Mother-in-law's possessive trait.. They think another woman who came as a wife of her son is going to snatch away her son and make him forget all about the hardships and pains she has undergone to bring up her son.
    A Mother-in-law considers her daughter-in- law always as an unwanted intruder between her son and her.
    There may be other reasons also.

    Actually this is not true. There are many women who live with her mother-in-law just like a daughter. They have good understanding and discipline. Many women have mean thinking and cruel intensions to not to live a peaceful life. Such women are wicked.

    No one stops them to live happily with each other but their own fears. They both consider them as rivals in the sense that mother considers herself as the first owner and the wife wants the husband all for herself. This is more so in a combined family. This is not easy to get rid of this problem since the Indian customs do encourage such traditions. This is not like the western world where social and financial obligations are not part and related of a family to male members, thus Indian society will have to live with this in future also. Once the women become self sufficient and independent in all fields, probably we can dream of a family not facing mother-in-law, and Bahu serials.

    True. Seeing the most unrealistic TV serials, women believe they can implement the idiotic ways shown in the serials especially, the Bahu and saas series.Women should come of age and learn to live in the real world.

    I feel it is because the women were totaly dependant on their men for everything and when another woman comes in she is viewed as a rival.I feel that with financial independence for women and a change in the attitude will definitely help them bond together better ..
