Election expenditure cannot be completely avoided. But can be reduced to some extent. Political advertisement campaigns can be minimised by campaigning in person from door to door.
There are already rules on poll expenses. But the fact remains that the major political parties are funded by corporate sector. Kejriwal rightly commented that Modi and Rahul both are in pocket of Ambani. As a matter of facts, these elections are only for the super rich capitalists. The people at large have no choice. This is like giving one the option to choose the rope for hanging him till death.

The choice is with people. They should reject the political parties who hoodwink them by extraordinary high cost campaign. They may use their discretion and vote for the parties that spend less and use cheaper method like door to door campaign as suggested by Rambabu.

Very true. Any change can be brought out, including reduction in poll expenditure by the people alone. I think there is a way to keep an eye on the extravagant poll expenditure through RTI. This opportunity should be availed by the responsible citizens with social conscience.

Definitely things can be better if all parties and EC lays down certain rules...Where is the need for pomp and unnecessary expenditure ? It is like a competetion where parties spend to outspend other parties. AAP is the only party which was more down to earth and spent just what was necessary ..Inspite of this when Kejriwal flew once he was criticised , we all know for a fact that other larger parties have private jets for their use.

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

There are rules of course. But where is the strict implementation ? In the absence of strict implementation this will be an exercise in futility.

Wht is necessary that no candidate spends more than that authorized by election commission. But they do. The voters also know by just watching the way of convassing. It is for voters to reject the candidates spending astronomical sums.

Yes, voters certainly can play pivotal role in containing the election expenditure. They have provisions like RTI at their disposal. We should remember that Whistle Blowers are from the public.
The problem is with the party organisations themselves who are flooded with donations. One of the candidates from Bangalore is known to us and he has been given 5 crore rupees by the party he represents for election expenditure and according to him , he can do what he wants with it...A developing country like ours can ill afford such wasteful expenditure
