    But alert systems will still not be installed. This is because accountability is not there.

    Life is indeed cheap in India, it is really sad that in spite of so many recurring accidents and loss of young lives, apathy and total disregard for human life exists in India! :sick:

    That is because hardly anyone is ever punished especially if they are government employees. Cases drag on for ever and out of sheer time fatigue lose momentum. If there is accountability, then others will be careful. Also all said and done our cadre services are highly overrated. They hardly innovate. British times laws are maintained and .carried forward.

    Today's news says that now HP government has taken a decision to have alarm systems for about three kilometers downstream. Someone has to die for administration to wake up and act. In my city I have seen speed breakers being made only after some scooterist has lost his life. There is hardly any imagination n the administrators and we are told hat the cadre services recruit the best after strict selection norms. What happens later on.

    Such is the scenario all over the country! But rather than lack of imagination, it is the tendency of showing utter disregard to following rules and regulations. It is actually a standard procedure to sound an alarm whenever the doors of any dam are released, but like all else, even this rule is disregarded. Last monsoon season in Pune, due to illegal construction on a hill close to the outskirts of the city, flash floods occurred which took life of a 3-year-old girl who got caught in the currents. The person responsible for it was caught but was let off on bail and the case drags on! It will probably take a few more losses again to get results! :dry:

    It is the responsibility of authorities to take all actions to save living beings from mishaps if they are preventable, but greater responsibility is of people to ensure these are implemented.
