I belong to the cyber age yes..and I find most of the information i need at my finger tips ..thanks to Internet..thanks to google.

But, as a we grow we feel that the upcoming generation is getting more and early exposure to technology for no reason. Before i comment anything on the news piece that you have shared, let me pose a question..why on earth do we need wi-fi enabled schools? To make use of the wi-fi or Internet connection children also need laptops, notebooks, tabs, and of course a smart phone. Children get ready made answers to everything and fail to use their brains.
I am sure most of us did go to good schools where we didn't require Internet to look for additional information. Books were all we referred to. But, because various schools by now make it a mandate to use Internet to work on school projects etc we cannot stop children from using Internet. I believe children should not be exposed to Internet at least in schools unless it is absolutely necessary. At home children should be allowed to use only under strict parental guidance and for a limited time span. At the same time parents should be open to listen and communicate (two-way) to explains sensitive issues to children so that they don't depend on Internet for answers. After all we really cannot control children 24X7 but can help minimize the negative impact of using internet.

I agree with all your opinions and observations. I also agree that we cannot completely control the children, but we can minimize the usage of Internet in children.
Absolutely Internet usage should be timed for children.

There are several ways to stop the habit of Viewing internet in children. What all you have to do is avail them. If there is a will, there is a way also.
Absolutely Internet usage should be timed for children.

Not only its usage should be timed but the parents need to decide exactly at what age they should allow their children to use internet. Now I see so many parents who allow their children as young as 9 to be on sites such as Facebook! Many schools now encourage children to obtain information on various topics from internet, but my advise is to be with or around in close proximity to the children when they are doing so, so that we can keep an eye on what they are doing.

In many schools now computer is being intoduced right from class 1 and children learn how to use it also know how to use the internet. In such a scenarion it depends on the parents as to how best they can mould the child and make him/her use it for specific purposes only, until when they are able to make decisions which is early now while compared to before. A child at 11 or 12 knows how to use the web is already a member of social sites and may even be experimenting with porn sites and one cannot do anything much about it and in my opinion there is no harm as long as it is limited to socialising but again how can one keep tabs ? this is where parental guidance helps !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Parental guidance and obtaining more knowledge about various control measures works a lot. In many cases parents themselves do not know either how to use internet or how to implement various firewalls or family filters etc. So it really needs efforts on parents' part to know more technology to hellp them keep tabs on their child's net usage. There are even certain softwares which records all the sites that a child visits, because at this point the child is too clever to delete their recent browsing history afterwards but it gets recorded in those particular softwares. This may seem like spying or invading their personal space, but at least until age 18, this IS needed!

observing the child's recently visited web sites, is certainly not invading the privacy of the child.. After all it's the parent who is doing it and for the sake of the child's healthy growth. Parents must be harsh wherever it's necessary.

Internet is a help but it depends how we use it.

Anything has both positive and negative sides. It depends on the person how he/she uses any particular technology. For most of the youth or children Internet has become a entertainment resource. Very less people prefer using Internet for prospective things or educational purpose. I agree that it is somehow destroying them... especially the social networking sites.
If technology is abused, why one should blame the Technology. Blame the abusers. If children are getting spoiled by internet, blame those parents who allow their children to use internet indiscriminately. Who fail to impose restrictions and who care least about the far reaching ill effects of Internet abuse.
