The value of Rs. 500 is pittance for some. And for it's a fortune.

Exactly. Depending upon the financial status of an individual, opinions vary.

Rs 500 is by no means a small amount, there have been times when I have managed 3-4 days with just 500 rupees in my purse , that is if there is no major expenditure involved like paying bills and buying petrol ! It seems like a pittance only when you have not worked to earn it..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

It is quite a big amount and not a small one. With 500 rupees I can manage my kitchen nicely for 4-5 days without any hassles.

I count the five hundred rupee notes in my pocket before spending anything.  The smaller notes get spent soon. Sometimes it may happen that I have 100 Rs. notes valued even Rs. 1000/- or more.  But being in habit of considering only five hundred notes, I feel I have less money.

For some if it is a fortune, for some it is no more than an amount for buying a branded under garment..

Oh comon, you have to open your wallet for so many other things too. If you limit it to kitchen only, I can go on forever with this amount as my wife will not allow me to spend a rupee onthat.

It is point of opinion on the value of Rs. 500. It doesn't necessarily mean how many other things can Rs. 500 fetch.

Of course I have to buy so many other things that requires much more money than mere 500, but since the topic was only about the value of 500 I restricted to its utility for eating purpose. If we really wanted to be lavish, there are places where even 5000 or 50,000 would not be enough!

Exactly Kalyani. The topic is only about the value of Rs. 500.
