Most bank customers have provided bank their AADHAAR and PAN both. Now Income Tax department is also requiring linking of PAN with AAdhaar.

If my income is below the taxable limit and so need not file return, will it still be necessary to link aadhaar with PAN.  If I don't do so, what will be the consequences.  It is said that the returns will be invalid.. But if I don't need to file return, how does non linking aadhaar with PAN affect me.  ,

Please help me......

Hi Gulshanji. I am also having the same doubt, which I think the IT department has not clarified so far. Their notifications always talk about tax payers who file ITR. However, two months back I read somewhere that even if you are not required to file income tax returns due to income being below exemption limit, but possess both PAN and Aadhar cards, then again it is mandatory to link PAN and Aadhar cards; otherwise your PAN card will be liable to become invalid from a date to be notified by the government, as per section 139AA of the Act. If the PAN card becomes invalid, it will affect your banking / finance transactions.

As per the latest news, the deadline for linking the cards is extended to December 31, 2017. Again, it seems that it is applicable to the Tax Payers who file ITR. The last para of the article in the following link says that the deadline for those below the exemption limit is yet to be notified.

Thank you said by: Gulshan Kumar Ajmani

Thank you for clarifying my doubt

@ Rambabu Sorry i was wrong in my first statement.

If you think that your income is not taxable and you do not file income tax returns, you will still have to link your Aadhar card with pan card, otherwise your pan card will be invalid and if a person's pan card becomes invalid they would face problems in all banking and financial transactions. So it is must to everyone.

I owe my gratitude for making the things clear. What you said that one need not link Aadhar card with  pan card is quite clear

But if I don't need to file return, how does non linking aadhaar with PAN affect me.  ,

,..................

From what I understand , eventually PAN and Aadhar will be merged into one identification card that takes care of all details like address proof, birth date and financial transactions at a glance. This is how it is with all other nations where they have ID cards or social security cards. It is very essential for India because as of now there is very little accountability.

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

PAN and Aadhar should be merged. But still there are many questions to be answered. Any how before Dec 31, i am sure  all the questions pertaining to Linking of PAN card and Aadhar will be answered

Possibly, eventually only Aadhaar Card may be only document for all purposes and may replace PANCARD.  As most customers have provided their aadhaar card and pancard dtails to banks, I wonder why these cannot be linked from bank information. All pancard holders do not file I.T. Return as their income is less. In fact, senior citizens whose tax is deducted at source from pension which is not more than Rs. five lac in a year, filing of return is not mandatory.  It should be clarified whether even the non return filers have to link aadhaar and pancard with Income Tax department.

If you link it then it will be good even you are not filing tax return because this feature will not be available in future so better to do it this time.
