We often guess the future events and say that we hope this thin or that thing. We also use 'expect' or 'anticipate'. While 'hope' is positive, there is doubt about 'expect',and 'anticipate. Can we expect or anticipate only favourable and good events or even bad things can be expected or anticipated. 'Fear' is definitely about negative or bad guess. The use of these words needs some clarification.

Any member has not attempted to remove my doubts on the words 'anticipate' and 'expect'.

While hope is always for the good and we fear the bad, the words' anticipate' and 'expect' need some discussion. I think that there is some difference between 'hope' and 'expect'. While hope may be without any sound basis, 'expectation' is on more precise and definite basis. While one may 'hope' that it will rain, he expects that he will pass examination.

@Gulshan, regarding Hope I think you are right, It is a term which mainly projects positive feeling.

Anticipate - something that you are aware of and are waiting for it to happen, this could be both; positive as well as negative and can be associated with Fear!!

And I agree with on definition of expect...yes, it does have a sound basis more than "hope"!

Thank you kalyani for clarifying the terms. So, 'anticipate' is a likely future incident- good or bad.

Anticipate mostly relates to the area where caution is exercised. Where as hope and expectation relates to positive future events.

If I am wrong in anyway I welcome suggestions for further correction.
@Guru, you are right withe respect to "anticipate", since you are aware of consequences of your actions beforehand, you get that much time to be prepared for something!

Guru- Apparently, you are correct. 'Anticipate' is associated with 'caution' as you say. That is why there is provision for 'anticipatory bail'. The bail applied as a precaution for likely arrest is anticipatory bail. 'hope' and 'expectation' are definitely positive. But 'hope' may be just a blind feeling and 'expectation' is on firm ground.
You have indeed given me very good clue.
