Dear Friends,

Sometimes in our course of conversation,we get confused as to when we have to use the words 'much','many' and 'a lot of'.Let us see how we can easily use them!

Many

We use the word 'Many' with count nouns

Examples-How many apples were there?
How many chocolates did you buy?
How many people did you invite?
They aren't many apples.

We use 'many' when there are Questions and Negatives.

Much

We use the word 'Much' with uncountable nouns
Examples-How much wine is there?
There isn't much wine.
How much money do you have?
I don't have much money with me.

We use 'much' when there are Questions and Negatives.

A lot of

We use 'a lot of' with count and uncountable nouns

Example-There are a lot of apples in the kitchen.
There’s a lot of beer in the fridge.
There's a lot of journalists out there

We use 'a lot of' when there is positive tone in speech

A few more examples using the words 'many', 'much' and 'a lot of' are given below-

Hence we can summarize as such-

Use 'Many' for Count Nouns in Questions and Negatives
Use 'Much' for Uncountable Nouns in Questions and Negatives
Use 'a lot of' for Count and Uncountable Nouns in Positives.
