A senior minister in the Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government in Goa has echoed controversial Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik saying that the practice of young girls visiting pubs in short dresses is against local culture and should be stopped.

The Sri Ram Sene activists had attacked girls and men in a pub in Mangalore in 2009, claiming the women were violating traditional Indian values.

Sri Ram Sene is like Shiv Sena of yesteryears which was doing similar things," he said while referring to Sena's agenda of the past in which the saffron party would oppose celebration of Valentine Day by calling it as a cultural invasion.

Men roaming in bermudas and half pants maybe found exciting by many and these dresses should also be banned.Men in dhoti also exhibit part of their legs. It should also be banned. Every person male or female should wear only burqas in Goa, beginning with the CM and his agriculture Minister.
Why these curbs on personal choices? Is it not invasion on individual rights ?

It is time women also should start demanding tht men should also dress in particular ways. Why it is always the other way round.

Aptly said. This habit of encroaching on others lifestyle should not be tolerated.

Women groups will have to fight for their rights themselves. They should not allow the TMC MP Tapas to enter the Parliament for threatening women with rape. Whenever women rise the men run away. They should exert their strength to teach such men and Mamata also a lifelong lesson.

If we see old sculptures women are seen dressed in short dresses showing their midrif and clreavage, and , by the way most wetserners are of the opinion that the saree is a very revealing dress, so let prople not harp back on tradition since it will only backfire ....Practically a woman has more to conceal than men because of biological reasons and it is left to them to make their own choice

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Are short dresses against culture? since time immemorial there has been many discussions and no conclusion and this will continue to do so in future. but there will be no conclusion as all these are personal choices.

No need of any fight. Just ignore and do whatever you like to do.
I see people all over are only on the look out to control..for obvious reason I don't want to pin point on any particular social / political groups doing so. If talking about culture why do we only blame young gals who are scantily dressed. men too think less is more...

The point here is are really the girls dressed in mini /micro minis going to discotheque are to be blamed for polluting our culture? What about bollywood movies who make it point to include 2-3 party songs in their movies irrespective of the need of the story. In a way they are to be blamed if at all -to promote the disco, booze culture. Why none of these groups who do a lot of moral policing first put a ban on such songs.
What about few men who do not vacate seats alloted to women on buses/ local trains- why these groups do nothing about this. Does our culture allow to disrespect women?
What about those section of girls/women who are dressed and covered from top to toe and still become a rape victim?

I personally believe the kind of clothes one wears is a personal choice and it should remain so.

“A mistake is a crash-course in learning” – Billy Anderson

I firmly believe that people esp women shd dress according to the occassion and that takes care of all problems. If a girl goes around in mini skirts while visiting a village she is bound to raise eye brows and invite criticism and may be even derogatory comments...similarly, in public places wearing revealing dresses can only invite trouble since you never can be sure what kind of people are there . It is best to keep such dresses for private parties where you are with friends and like minded people...
