    Understanding is needed invariably. Caring is akin to understanding. Religion and caste will matter in most cases. In closed societies, there can also be neither understanding nor caring if religion or caste differ. In arranged marriages, religion and caste matter more. In love marriage, understanding matters most.

    understanding is the most important factor i judge to be compulsorily present in one's life partner. understanding has so many virtues, it is a quality which underlines a person's temperament, it means he is tolerant, patient, enduring, and gives due respect to one's fellow beings.

    To my humble understanding it goes far beyond these three!! Human minds are so dauntingly different to make a list of traits that go into ensuring success in marriage is a job of tall order. I have known some spouses almost dying of care or overcare!
