Poor's right to education

Justice requires that all citizens get equal opportunities irrespective of caste, creed or money. People will be enabled to avail equal opportunities if same education is provided to rich and poor alike. This is not only a matter of social justice. we need best persons in every skill. The best can come only if there is no discrimination in education on basis of money. This is what the right to education aims to achieve. Supreme court has ruled in favor of government decision for 25% seats in all schools for poor.

    This is the best news. Many intelligent and talented poor students will get chance to prove themselves. Moreover India needs good and talented people to run the government offices and administration. Now the education will no longer remain a source of income. Children will get education in true sense.

    Education is and should be one of the basic rights of our citizen and it is a tool of empowerment which all our governments have neglected in the worst manner.It is just not mere education but quality education to which everyone should have access!

    Education is the basic right, true, but there is a serious lack of empathy on the part of governing bodies that oversee the running of government-owned schools, probably because no one is interested whether the poor get education or not. Unless this gap is fulfilled nothing will work right.

    The other day I have seen a report that a school in the rural area has just two students with two teachers. The reason being that the school has government sanction up to class VI and the parents are reluctant to send their wards to this school simply because there are practical difficulties to find schools at that stage!The government spends 50000 thousand bucks on the salary of these two teachers!!

    @Chinmoy, this is just one of the many examples that show how ridiculous the system is in India. A few months back, there was a report in newspaper about some teachers in Western Maharashtra. These teachers have been very honest in their work and trying to teach their students while facing several hurdles, one being that they haven't been paid their salaries for 2-3 years and after finishing classes have to labour in farms like a common daily-wages labourer to make ends meet!

    And while we read about such stories, I know a relative from my husband's side, who has a contract of providing mid-day meals to at least four schools and he earns a hefty sum of 1-2 lakhs per month by selling those grains to shopkeepers.

    This is the true state of affairs! There are several such scams involving this program. On the other hand some pseudo educationists set up private schools which are the craze among the parents and they exploit both the teachers as well as the parents with the government withdrawing from the scene as an onlooker!

    What I feel is that rich, poor, cast and whatever should not count when it comes to talent. The talent should be the prime factor while it comes to education.

    Yes education should be basic right to everybody.Govt. should provide this. Ac act was implemented in our country , but no provision to look after this.
