Rail fares hiked across all passenger classes after 10 years

New Delhi: In a rare decision just a month ahead of the Budget, Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal Wednesday effected an across-the-board hike in fares of all classes from midnight of January 21 to net an additional Rs 6,600 crore a year, the first such increase in a decade.

    No i beg to differ with you. Nothing is running in losses. They were made to run in losses by the political Bandicoots.

    Here I have different take on this issue. The pre-revision level of Rail fare is not inflation-linked. If other modes of travel have been allowed to revise their rates according to prevailing rate of inflation, why Indian Railways should be deprived of it??? Laloo or Mamata was missing the larger picture and mind it - that these persons are selfish enough to encourage populism for their own political benefits. They are not spending single farthing from their own pockets! If Railways becomes sick it has to be bailed out from own money - today,tomorrow or thereafter!!!

    People will make big sounds when train fare is hiked a little. But they will keep their mouth shut when state government hikes the bus fare even double. I do not know what the reason behind is.
