Born to express, not to impress.

I think they deserve it. Being in most risky situation, our armed forces need a different treatment and separate pay panel is one of that.

Separate pay panel For defense services was decided by the government in 1908 despite the fact that the armed forces never asked for it. That panel may see the light of the day now. But the armed forces want their representatives on it.

A pay commission decides pay scales and other facilities in consultation with all concerned including the armed forces. That is why there is time lag between appointment of commission and recommendations. Government consults concerned organizations and parties before approving and implementing the recommendations. So, this is not an issue. although separate pay commission is not so far appointed for armed forces, pay commission considers their specific circumstances and conditions while giving recommendations. That is why salary and allowances of armed personnel are more than their civilian counterparts.

They are right I think defense personals are lowest paid employees of India, specially at lower rank. they deserve handsome pay package. their duties are hardest one.

They are not low paid. They get higher salary than equivalent civilians. They also get free rations, free or subsidized accommodation, cheaper commodities in Canteen stores department. They get special allowances when working in remote or difficult places. The main issue of army persons in lower rank is not pay. This is rehabilitation after retirement. Many retire at age of forty years only and they need reemployment. There is quota in many organizations for reemployment of ex servicemen (ex soldiers). They also get more pay in view of past service in army. There is more to do in this respect. I have one more suggestion. They should be employed in a rank that conforms to that in army. In this context, I may cite my uncle's example. He retired as Subedar clerk from Army service corps. He got military pension and after retirement from civil got another pension for civil service. So financially, this is okay. But what I feel is that he had to work in lower position in civil department. He was subedar (a supervisory post) in army but employed as clerk/ lower division clerk in civil. It would be more just to give him better rank in civil also. I have seen JCO granted Honorary commission as Captain, working as a mere watchman in factories. his is what irritates me.

That's a good suggestion worth implementing . An ex-serviceman's original status has to be maintained, even after re employment in the civil services. That's the least honour a government can bestow on these noble persons.

I think defense forces need a separate pay scale, as they are doing life threatening jobs and it is also true with the advent of open economy most of professional jobs' salaries increased many folds, and in order to attract young mind to defense forces we need a good salary at par with other professions.

Pay scale may be Ok but they should get more death benefits especially for widows who have to go through so much of red tape to get what is due to them.I know of a couple of cases where the army men died in Kashmir and the widows are yet to get any benefit nor family pension because of the lax attitude of the government.

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Also, keeping their retirement age (according to their ranks at NCO and JCO level) they should get more salaries and most of all pension benefits because once out of services they have not many options but to go for private security services or back to their farming if they have enough land back home.
