India should try to be self sufficient and go for indigenous developing of defense system, that will remove the complete dependence on other countries about defense purchasing.

Our mind set and political system will nt let us do that ! Indians have a slavish mentality otherwise how does a Sonia Gandhi call the shots here and the congress leaders fall flat at her feet? or Pakistan walk all over us killing our army men left right and center, even Bangla desh show a dont care attitude? goes to show that we are a bunch of spineless beings easily overruled by others who have mental strenghth and know how to manipulate. This will not change in a century....

Agreed, Indians have not yet come out of dependency because they are independent and not FREE nation. Free from corruption, slave mentality, overawed with small happenings, over reactions etc etc. It will take another century before they will come to terms that too if they get the right kind of leadership.

As long as we continue with our slavish mentality and sychopancy there will be no better tomorrow...I see many non resident Indians longing to come back to their own country only to get totally disillusioned with the system since they have seen and experienced better ! How can mind set change since it gets passed on from generation to generation...

We all need work to change conditions in our country. But a patriot would prefer his own country. I can only pity those who wait for conditions to improve before they can come to India. It is better they forget India and live happily where they are. We are in India whether the conditions are good or bad. Those who wait for things to improve are unwelcome.

The term patriot has lost its relevance now - A patriot according to many is one who puts up with any nonsense and goes around saying his country is great even when it is not ! Conditions get improved when the leaders perform and when you have no performing leaders and a population that is least bothered about changing the system , people are bound to get disillusioned with the system , does not mean they have no love for their country ! An Indian citizen no matter where he/she lives is always welcome in his country ! No one can take that right away from them...

all are welcome but not those who will wait for us to make things better for them. We need improve our country for ourselves and not for those who will come only if we make things better for them.

It is a matter of give and take directly or indirectly every Indian citizen contributes whether living here or in some other country. They all have roots here and they make remittances and make some investments which is all contributing to the economy and they have as much right as others to grumble, criticise and expect better performance from the leaders ..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

There are two types of Indians abroad. First- the NRIs who are abroad only for limited purpose and really consider India as a home. My nephews and one niece are in this category though they are always more abroad. But one of my cousin is in Canada and has go citizenship of that country. There are many such persons abroad and they have no connection with India. We really need to make our country better. But how is anyone justified to expect us to work for better conditions just to enable them to return. Even if some friend or relative tells me- I shall come to you if you make your house better, what can I say? I certainly am not to act in a way to enable him to visit my house. Let him live where he is and he needs not visit my place. That is what I think. similarly about nation.

Agreed ! But some of the NRIs are permanently living in other countries which is true of almost all people working in the gulf countries. They buy house and live there but invest here and hope that their country improves in ifra structure and other basic facilities. That is the best they can do. But they do contribute positively and help the economy and trade by sending foreign currency. The others who are citizens of other country do not really care how India is since they are living elsewhere...

They would be sending money to their families and not really bothering about nation as such. For them India is like any country. Family and not nation matters. We need not give so much importance to overseas Indians. why bother about their wait for better conditions in India. we are here- irrespective of any conditions.

All these seems to be news to garner attention nothing more to it and India should be self sufficient and should not look beyond to control its own economy and defense preparedness. :silly:

Of course noone sends money for charity they send for investments or to their family but either way they are remitting foreign currency, thats how economy works...these small remittances add up and thats how we have a good foreign currency reserve because of these people hard earned money, so what is wrong if they have some expectations from their country ? especially when they know that it is not an impossible thing and that money is going into wrong hands ...

We can' treat anyone as VIP just as he has gone to some other country. We do not expect anything from them. Let them be loyal to the countries they live in. However, those who have gone abroad for specific purpose are different. Also expectations are not bad but there can be no condition for their return. We shall improve things for our own sake and not for facilitating anyone to return. This is so simple. I don't welcome even a relative at my home with conditions. Now if somebody says that I should install A.C. and good furniture so that he may visit my house, what shall i do. I shall certainly not welcome him. This is about nation as well.

India is all about its citizens staying here not about non resident Indians, as most of the times, it is for their own benefits they go outside and nothing of that sort, it is Indian who are staying here would be developing this nations they love the most.

First of all they are visiting their own house not someone elses and when people live abroad they also are able to perceive that things can work better since almost all countries are better than ours with regard to infra structure and official matters , so they begin to question why it does not work in their country? nothing wrong in that ! When I was living abroad I would come every year with so much joy but feel disappointed the moment we landed at Mumbai airport because it is so filthy, right from the bathrooms and this makes you feel disappointed.
For those who live here it is an every day affair and they are used to it but when you live abroad you realise how bad our country looks and as a citizen you feel bad about it and hope something would be done about it...

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Now the issue of summons to some of our leaders by U.S. court has become stale. This has been amply discussed and this is time to lock this thread. Thanks all for participation.
