The Tamilnadu Government is going to release the killers of late P.M. Rajiv Gandhi consequent on commutation of death sentence to life imprisonment. This appears just and proper as the killers hvae already spent very ong period in jail with constant fear of handgman's noose. It is surprising that Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi are so uncomfortable with Tamilnadu's government's decision. After all, the modern jurisprudence is not based on revenge.

Not really surprising that Rahul Gandhi is against freeing the criminals as they did kill his father in a horrible manner! Also, this may raise several questions against the judicial system in general, as their plea for mercy was lying pending with the President for more than 11 years! If the killers of a PM of the second largest democracy are let off free, it does raise many fearful questions in the minds of common people!

Yes. Right now the pandemonium started in loksabha. Loksabha has been adjourned. It seems in this last session congress cannot pass a single bill.

Rahul Gandhi's fathr was killed and he wants revenge by ensuring that killers must be hanged till death even though they have suffered more than enough punishment by way of prolonged imprisonment under constant fear of hangman's noose. Revenge is not object of modern jurisprudence. we cannot find fault with T.N. C.M.'s action to release the killers. There should be no fearful questions in peoples' minds as the culprits had already suffereed enough and the apex court has commuted the death sentence after considering all aspects.

The entire scenario passes a completely wrong message to the people. This may even lead to many hardened criminals thinking they can get off with heinous crimes and many have indeed been let off of after few years' imprisonment! It does not at all sound fair and just!

Rajiv gandhi's killers are not being released just after a few years. They have undergone jail imprisonment for a few decades under constant fear of execution. Their release is just and proper. Moreover, India is among few countries where death sente3nce is still on statute.

However, Suprme Court has directed Tamilnadu government to maintain status que till petition of central government is decided.

Yes the hearing will be on March 6.
Unfortunately, the issue of commutation of death sentence and release from prison of Rajiv Gandhi's killers is being made an emotive issue. This is just a legal issue. The killers have spent in jail more than two decades under constant fear of death. They have already suffered for their crime. Jai Lalitha is not wrong in releasing them from jail at this stage. Howver this has some legal technicalities. As this is related to some central law related to terrorism, center has power to release them and so the C.M. has no absolute power in this regard.

But it is wrong to make this an emotive and election issue. Rahul gandhi said in a rally- If my late father does not get justice, how will a common man get. What does he mean by 'justice to my father'. This is just desire for revenge. Law does not satisfy anyone's desire for revenge. This revengeful attitude of Congress led to 1984 riots. Revengeful attitude of communities leads to communal riots. Modern jurisprudence is not based on revenge. Incidentally, death sentence is removed in almost all civilized countries.

I garee...And it is not just Rajeev Gandhi but other security personnel as well who were killed and naturally those families are livid with this judgment. I personally feel that they should be given a life sentence no matter what they had to suffer, since they have killed people without any feeling or remorse..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

In fact they have been given life sentence only. But there are some rules for relase even in such cases. After serving jail sentence of 14 years, state government may grant parole so that remaining life could be outside prison.

What is more upseting is that the plea for mercy was pending with the President's office for more than 11 years, that plus other legal technicalities is the reason why these people are being allowed to walk off! Is there any justice anyone can see in this??
