Anti dowry laws were introduced so that harrassed women get justice but the Supreme court is of the opinion that increasingly it is being misused by women and conviction rates are very low since there is normally not enough evidence to do so due to the false nature of the complaint, so the court feels that certain points need to be considered and only after the police officer is satisfied he or she should arrest the man accused of dowry harrassment and that too only after obtaining Magistrate's nod ..

    True. Anti Dowry laws were misused by some to settle scores. Since the present system gives weightage to the woman's grievance, even without a proof, these atrocities have become rampant in recent times. Yes, the present anti Dowry needs some amendments.

    every law is used and misused. when misuse exceeds use, the court has to take remedial measures to prevent misuse.

    I too am all for this amendment since advantage can be taken by both sides, any minor tussle between the couple used to be termed as dowry harrassment which is unfair ! With this new directive by the supreme court hopefully women too become more responsible and so do the men ...

    Amendments in the anti Dowry act are awaited since long. Now, at least it's going to be a reality. Hope a balanced law based on the facts is much appreciated.
