This stepwell is a rare thing to see in modern times, haven't seen such a stepwell...drawing water from such well would be much easier.

In fact in Rajasthan and Gujrat there are quite a few stepwells old and not so old. The pne I visited in Gujrat was well preserved although it was a few hundred or even a thousand year old...have posted a picture of the same that I took..

Thank you for this image. Though it's comparatively new, the important point is we have preserved the precious heritage.

Good to know that we still have such wells in the present era.

It's the responsibility of the every citizen to preserve the Heritage. By preserving the heritage we are honoring ourselves.
It was built with a lot of forethought by our ancestors. In the one I have seen, the water gets collected and drianed into the well from rooftops and cemented surface after which it passes through troughs and small canals and passes through a seive to block dirt . It is a very intricate system beautifully and artistically crafted and has been preserved until this day. The water in the well is crystal clear and is still being used by the villagers close by..

Here is a detailed study of ancient water consecration systems that prevailed thousands of years ago

This is indeed a very good and innovative way to reuse rain water and conserve water.
