In a shameful incident a 24 year Manipuri Engineering studen was beaten for not speaking Kannada, the state language. Why do people become so self centered and vicious? Is it because of the manner in which some leaders incite and provoke thme to carry out such acts or is it inborn in us ?
I feel that people across the country should unite and condemn such acts of intolerance ...

Commuaism anr regionalism are responsible for such incidents. Unfortunately, the forces of disunity, communalism and regionalism are having upper hand in current scenerio. We witnessed such tendency in Maharashtra where once south Indians were harassed by local regional outfit. In Tamilnadu and elsewhere also the language issue takes ugly shape. No surprise, the North East people are eing harassed in Delhi and some other states. This is indeed a very sorry state of affairs.

Regionalism exists in all states, the degree of regionalism may be less or more but it does affect all people who reside outside their native places for some or the other reason. People from the North-East are more prone to bouts of regionalism because they look different other wise as a displaced Bengali this happens with us too....may be the degree is less.

No doubt this feeling is there in other countries too . Europe and other places where there is a vast difference in culture and tradition in different regions but in India where these differences are far more, the problem arises out of petty mindedness and also political pressures brought on by the selfish leaders. In the now going on Elections of Maharashtra we can see how leaders of the Shivsena provoke by making statements like taking over ceratin parts of Karnataka and chasing away non marathis etc...

True..and in India, political parties thrive by constantly brewing the topic of regionalism from time to time.

At times there is provocation and people get carried by their misplaced priorities but to beat up a student who has come to study in your state is the limit ! And sadly this is not an isolated incident either...This is done mostly by certain misguided people because normally Bangaloreans are very accommodating !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Bangalore is cosmopolitan and with a beautyful climate, this incident I saw snippet in ndtv yesterday, was really shock to me, most people of there are smiling and light hearted, and what could be this reason needs to be seen and stern action needed to be takeb by state government.

It is not about B'lorians, Mumbaikars, Puneites, or any other place..all places have mixed people good/bad....it is about thinking, which needs to be changed. These incidents including any other incidents should be stopped..state govt.s should take adequate step to provide a safe environment for students coming from various states. Such incidents should be condemned and people who are responsible should be punished for their action.

Here are more details about the bad incident. One anipuri managed to bring police. Otherwise the miscreats woul have murdered. The attacker made very provocative and foolish remark. "If you can eat food made i Krnataka, you can also speak in Kannada. This is India and not China." This indicates that the miscreants view North East as close to Chinese. This is certainly more stupid. Such attitude will alieate the North East.

There is nothing new, you have to see how many people from other states beaten in North East every day for very small things. People from Bihar and Bengal go through very hard time in all North Eastern states.

This is tragedy. North East and rest are not so intefrated as should be. Thus North East people are bullies in their own region and victims elsewhere. This needs be remedied.
