Five people were jailed for murder of a woman. They were behind the bars for 13 years when the murdered woman resurfaced.

The case has been reopened by someone and the court has issued orders to the government to pay each wrongly jailed victims sums of Rs 20,00,000/- each... a total sum of Rs one crore.

Hats off for the Indian judiciary...

This is a defect in legal system. A court decides on the strength of witnesses- oral or documentary and wrong decisions are also taken many times. This is also reason why death penalty should not be awarded. There is no room for reversal of decision in case of death sentence. In this case, the victims of wrong sentence have at lease been compensation and are freed from jail.
But I have one doubt. If the woman is still alive, the police would not have recovered her dead body and so, the murder could not have been proved. Possibly, some other woman's dead body might have been described as body of the woman resurfaced.
Harish Jharia has narrated interesting real life case. Such incidents generally occur in films.

We have such legal procedures in India.

Thanks 'n' Regards,
Deepti.
If the woman didn't dead, then how they arrested them and how they jailed. This should not be tolerated. From this we can know how the system is working.

Rakesh- It is aptly said that law is blind. Law knows only evidence. If evidence is against you, you are punished. Definitely, the legal system is faulty. It is necessary to strictly punish the police persons and the false witnesses who make mockery of judicial system.

India Law is full of holes and every criminal are escaping from that hole every one knows that it was kassab was the criminal behind 20/11 in Mumbai and he has not been given any Judgement still now and Only in India a case will take more than 10-15 years for judgment even it is a simple crime case

Really sad for the people who wasted their precious years in jail. :( Judicial system really needs reforms. :)
I think that Indian Law and system is okay. But it is men who run system. even most efficient vehicle will not run if driver is bad. We have corrupt and lethargic persons everywhere who spoil the system.

I agree with the statement the law is blind. It looks for the facts and not the truth. If the evidence seems relevant the judge punishes even if the accused does have any involvement. That is indian Judcial system.
I don't know it is correct to mention here but the judge who pronounced the statement is to be punished for such a judgement
