An Indian organization- Net India- has arrived at conclusion after in depth research that the EVMs are not free from doubt and their use in elections is not fair. The Indian people need more transparency in elections. Hence, use of these machines should be discontinued. The elections should not only be fair. These should also appear to be fair.

    I think this may be the view of this organization but compared to the system we earlier had,this one seems to be more transparent.Although I agree that no system is perfect that way.

    We have to go through the detailed report of the organization. The report was prepared in collaboration with some other foreign based university.
    I agree that the EVMs are working satisfactorily and there have been not many complaints. However, irregularities in any system are possible. Even then the election commission should respond to the report and clear misapprehensions contained therein.

    Fouzan- Net India in collaboration with a foreign based organization has gone through the voting system and concluded that free and fair elections is not possible with the EVMs. Stoppage of the use of these machines has been sought.

    @Gulshan and @Chinmoy, it is true that the system of using EVMs is more transparent than th earlier manual one, but who is to stop the use of electronic machines that have been tampered with. Unless and until the entire political scenario and financial economics involved with elections is not cleaned up, no single system can be made infallible.

    To prove my point, where booth capturing by use of force and firearms is so rampant, what can be the guarantee that same thing would not happen to these machines??

    There is so much discussion on this topic in the past few days. Today technology vastly improved. It is improving day by day.

    Why the need of ballet papers in this developed technical world ?? What is the fault with the EVM's ??

    @Kalayani

    I am quite impressed and convinced of your logic.It is absolutely correct to say that EVM alone can not ensure transparency.In West Bengal I am aware how it is manipulated or coercively used by the ruling party to achieve its dark and questionable ends.An EVM is a machine after all and men behind them have to play their due role to make its functioning perfect.
    @Rakesh
    Under no circumstances we can think of going back to earlier system as it would be a retrograde step.

    Gulshan,
    Going back to ballot system is very tedious work.I have been performing as presiding officer for Panchayath Election and Parliment election for 6 years.When a poll with ballot paper comes all in duty have lot of duties and is highly time consuming.Actually we have to make some more good methods like polling from home itself!!!
