It has now been decreed by the govt of Maharashtra at the behest of education minister Balasaheb Thorat that no matter what the marks, no student from std 1st to std 8th should be failed. Even with low marks, the student should be promoted to the higher standard. The decision, it seems has been taken to reduce the percentage of children from dropping out of school and to increase the percentage of literacy.

In my opinion, this would not be a wise decision as this would severely compromise the quality of the education. Please comment.

If there is only pass, this is no examination. If it is desired that nobody fails and gets to higher class, the system of holding examination should be ended.

Such system may decrease the number of goods students to higher levels.

i'm completely agree with you on this....
Fail pass is part of exam. If everything become easy then student will not realize what is hard work. No one will care for study. If there is funda of pass fail then they will serious on study to pass.

@Kalyani

There is hardly any scope for disagreement with you on this.It would be just disastrous! Ends of discouraging drop-outs are noble but the means being adopted to achieve them are ludicrous to say the least!
It is followed here in my state years ago.It is just a psychological approach which really creates many useless.

Diluting academic standards seems to be the only purpose behind this kind of reckless decisions.
Oh!!! This is a completely unknown news for me!!!!

Thanks 'n' Regards,
Deepti.
Even where regular examinations are held in evey standard I hear that teachers are instructed by the higher-ups to be soft on evaluation.
This decreases the quality in the educational system. Students didn't prepare well. They didn't get enough knowledge at all.

By simply labelling ones with degrees and diplomas we hardly acheive anything unless quality is taken care of.
