Talking about advertising standards on decline, the corporate companies will now do anything to attract business. In spite of teh fact that Coca-cola is hugely popular among the children, it is disgusting that they have used such low means to attract children on Facebook.

Facebook promotion for Dr Pepper, a part of the Coca-Cola drinks range, posted a reference to an explicit pornographic film on the 'wall' of a minor girl. The users allowed the company to hijack their Facebook status box as part of the promotion, posting embarrassing messages under their names. More than 160,000 people had signed up for the hoax statuses that included, "Lost my special blankie. How will I go sleepies?" and "What's wrong with peeing in the shower?"

But the marketing drive went awry when a parent complained that her 14-year-old daughter's hijacked status claimed that she had watched a hardcore pornographic film that is notorious for the obscene practices it depicts.

How low can these companies get??

It may be somewhat okay to attract adults through pornography. It is very heinous offence to pollute and pervert mind of children for commercial gains. I think all coco cola advertisements should be banned in India.

Pornography by itself is bad enough. child pornography is not acceptable in itself. Use of pornography in normal advertisement is not acceptable. However, as long as pornography sites are lawful, there is nothing wrong in advertising on these sites. But advertisements or clicking on coco cola should not direct one to such sites. In other words, getting advertisement from pornography sites is okay but not the other way- pornography sites should not be advertised by the products.

@Gulshan, you have presented a very good point of view!! At least the giants such as Coca-Cola should show more responsibility in their advertisements!! As it is its bad enough that their targeted customers are young children, now they are resoting to low end tactics such as this is further degrading.

I accept that pornography is not such a bad thing and is legal now, but there should be a limit to it.

Kalyani- You have rightly stated that there should be a limit to pornography. In fact, such sites are restricted to adults and parents have way to restrict access of these sites to children. This has been a topic in Group discussions.
i repeat that coco cola or any company may post advertisement on porn sites but should not promote these. We do not mind porn sites promoting coco cola but can not accept coco cola promoting the porn sites.

Abid- I agree that the whole product be banned. Instead we should promote our own soft drinks like Lassi, fruit shakes and juices.

competition between the brands has increased to such a level that they forgets the moral values.

Jobin, the moral values play no significant roles with these corporate giants where profit making is concerned. Unless we as responsible citizens and parents change our attitudes towards viewing anything that is good and "desi", it will not change the overall picture. Our attitudes are such that anything that is endorsed by the westerners is good for us and anything that is Indian or desi is bad. Which is why Coca-cola, Pepsi, McDonalds etc have a field day in India.

These companies can do anything for boosting their sales and profit. here anything means ANYTHING.

They are not concern with morality. Their money is their morality.
