Can any one guess if two words are similar in sound but different in meaning then what we call such kind of words.

Example our, hour

So both of these words we pronounce in same manner but their spelling and meanings are different. So what we call such words.

There are many words pronounced similarly but spelled differently with different meaning. In writing, there is no problem. In conversation, context is significant. such words are called Homonym.

Different spelling but same sound.....some words which i know

hare,hair
won,one
caste,cast
sea,see
whole,hole
red,read(past tense)
two,too
Yes very true, the above stated words really confuse young kids and its very difficult to make them understand..
when in school, i used to get confuse with some words. its always a problem for school kids.
Not only are the kids confused, but also the elders get confused with these words-

dew(rain drops)-due(money to be paid)
rain(the natural rain)-reign(rule)
rose(flower)-rose(past tense of rise)
bow(weapon)-bow(bend down)
stationary(which stands)-stationery(pens,papers,etc)
q(the letter)-queue(the line of)

one advantage of these words is the fact that most of these homonyms are used in sms texts
like-
o i c- "oh i see"
fyn-fine
r-are
b-be
s-yes
y-why

they may be similar in pronunciation but differ in spellings

Swetha Shenoy
hear hair

its now becoming good game for all member so come on friends to generat word list.

Homonyms, sometimes very confusing and sometimes it is interesting too. I still remember those days of schooling when we were required to explain those or use them in sentences to express the meaning of those words in order to score marks.
there is a bit confusion. I think it is not homonyms , it is homophones
