Now the festivals will begin after Ashada..
The first one is Nagara Panchami and for this festival here at Mangalore most of us make a sweet called manjal iretha adye , which is steamed rice flour in turmeric leaves with coconut and jaggery filling and raw cashew nut payasa which is very tasty
For Krishna Ashtami we normally make rice ladoos , payasa and Holige
Ganesha Chaturthi - Payasa, holige and rava ladoo
Deepavali - Coconut Burfi, Holige and Payasa

Payasa or kheer and Holige seem to be common to all festivals in the south, at least here in Mangalore and Karnataka..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

    But it's a nice question for discussion :P :P :P :P :P

Onam and Vishu are related to Kerala Sadya....vegetarian meal served in plantain leaf, with 10-15 or more curries, rice and payasams. Vishu katta is made on Vishu, a rice food.

On Durgashtami (Dessara celebration), we place books and weapons for pooja and make rice payasam on Mahanavami when they are taken back.

Syrian Christians make Indiyappam for Easter. Also Kuttiyappam and stoo. I have seen my neighbours here, making a sweet similar to unniyappam in maida for their annual festival celebrations.

Muslims always make Biryani items and sweets for their celebrations after a long day fasting.
