Rain Water harvesting simply means collecting Water for future use during the rainy season.

Rain water harvesting has been in existence since long ago in various parts of India where the Summer months were harsh and the rainy seasons were short and the rainfall insufficient. In States like Rajasthan, Punjab , parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat they still have a method of water conservation which is most effective. They start by collecting all the rain water that falls on their own houses. All the water that is falling on the roof of the house and other parts where it is clean is collected and channelised into an underground tank . This not only brings up the water level of their well , but is helpful for them during the harsh summer months.

In Karnataka, in all major cities and especially in Bangalore where the water problem is the worst, making arrangements for Rain water harvesting is mandatory before a water connection is given by the authorities...this applies to older buildings too built on sites measuring 60x40 and above..

We have hd this since a long time , at least 4 or 5 years since it has been implemented and it is highly successful ...I agree that the respective state governments should take an interest and implement it...

Thats great ! I had visited a village at Bidar in karnataka which is an extremely fry place with one of the least rain falls. There an agriculturist implemented this and seeing the astounding results almost all his neighbors have gone for it and are really thriving...

Water harvesting is getting more significant in view of waste of rain water. Now all land is concrete and so water does not get absorbed in Earth. Underground water level is also falling.

Yes that is very true,, unless we take concrete steps now to preserve water future generations will suffer. One should teach children to respect nature and never waste water..

You know Bangalore is like my second home where this is mandatory to use water conservation or harvesting without using the same no house plans are passed.I have written many articles on this subject with my own diagrams. You see almost 30% water goes down the drain just because they let it go.
