More than anything else, the need of the hour is a hands-on approach to learning thing practically. Mere theoretical learning will get you nowhere, a simple reason why thousands of engineering graduates with first class and distinction remain jobless in our country.

Aptly said about the reason behind highly educated people remaining jobless, owing to lack of practical knowledge.

The focus even now, remains entirely on scoring marks and not the true calibre of the students! Portrayed so effectively in the movie 3 Idiots that things are changing positively at least for some, but it will still take more time for everyone to realise that marks is not the real thing!

Exactly. Anyhow, the new government assured to make some revolutionary educational reforms where practical knowledge is given top priority.

Focus is on the scoring system or grades because without this it becomes difficult to judge a student's calibre. The entire educational system (from the beginning to professional and technical colleges) needs to be changed in order to shift our focus from just scoring high numbers to getting adequate practical knowledge. This tasks seems to be challenging but I hope to see some changes in educational system with the new Govt, in place.

After taking a stock of the situation and understanding the flaws in the present education, the new government is all geared up to change the scenario for good Lets wait and see.

True ! the yard stick is the ability of a student to mug and reproduce, as for how much of it has been absorbed is anybodys guess ! From my own experience students who stand first and get first ranks in schools and pre universities are not the ones that get great placements when they come out of professional schools, it is those who are all arounders ..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Exactly.. one of friends is a school teacher who teaches Maths and Science to std X students and she too said the same thing, students who score 90% and more are the ones who really do not have complete grasp of the subjects, with exceptions of course. But this is due to the fact that they spend more time in mugging up answers rather than understanding the concepts clearly. This is the reason why we so few students who come first in boards etc. achieving an illustrious career as compared to so-called average students!

Knowledge gained by rote is without practicability. Our students know all the mathematical tables. But when it comes to real life application they do not the ccst of 4 oranges at the rate of Rs. 2 an orange. This is a small example.
Ideally theory and practice should go hand in hand only then the real purpose of education is served.Cramming the brain with words and figures does precious little . Now we have project work and practical classes which are aimed at making students understand better and utilise the knowledge in day today life...

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Yes nowadays in schools they are giving project work. It will help students to get more knowledge about the subjects.
