The insects instantly commit suicide on burning light. This gives rise to Urdu poems on shama (light) and parwana (insects). The lovers are likened to parwana and beloved to shama (light).

Sir,

Are they really committing suicide? Or is it because, they got attracted by the illusion and falls into the trap? (As we compare with man?)

I only know now that Parwana is insect. I thought it is a lamp with shama the light.
Thank you

The insects are instinctively attracted to light and die in the process. The affect of the attraction is death. Any action by one causing own death is suicide. Thus the parwana commit suicide. But there may be no intention to die. This is simply a natural phenomenon.
