i think the person who started the post should end it after a specified time period. That is the model followed by yahoo answers,webanswers and askpedia.

The moderator closes the GD. But I think that he should also give his own views and summarize the discussions. He is a sort of judge in the GD.

I think gulshanji has given very useful suggestion. moderators should end gd by a useful note.
GD means discusiing on one topic so that many members have different views.So moderator participating means no problem.
