I am finding it many times, many threads locking without giving the reason. Why is it so? Why a reason not given before moderator locks a thread? I just found one of my threads started yesterday being locked without giving any reason. Hoping moderators will kindly note my suggestion. :)

In most cases,Maverick does give his views before locking and Kalyani too does this! It's desirable too!
May i know which thread of you has been locked please.

Sandhya, I and Maverick usually give a reason before locking any thread. Please let me know which thread was locked without any reason and I can help you with that!!

I also do so before reporting it to moderator so that any user can know the reason why it's closed.

This thread was started yesterday only and I think, we can discuss a lot :cheer:

Sadnhya, I have looked and I agree they did not need to be locked. I have unlocked one and requested Sarala to unlock the other one!!

But I would also ask you all to really understand what Sarala is trying to say, maybe her tone is a bit harsh, but she still means well. SO please understand and try not to deviate from the topics too much!!

There is big deviation from main topic in most cases. The discussions are degenerated to mere gossiping or chatting. In such scenario, there is nothing wrong in locking a thread. Rather the posts deviating from the theme could even be removed.

Unless we have clear rules and instructions one would never know where the forum is going out of way, this would be better to have a clear guideline and act according to that. As long there are no rules regarding threads and postings nothing concrete would come out of it.

If the forum is out of the topic and there is no more dissussion then only the forum will be locked without any intimation

The first post in a thread is basis of subsequent posts. The reply posts should be relevant to issue. This is the principle. A member is free to write whatever he thinks proper. relevancy to the topic is only criterion. also, there should not be repetition of the same point. Discussion should be only on topic and no chatting between members.

There are already guidelines on forum posts. Just click 'Rules' above in Forum section.

I agree that such instances are unsettling and that they are happening more often now!! In that case, before simply locking the thread, a moderator should himself/herself bring it back on track and not just lock without giving reason,.
