Creating Multi Effect Heart shapes:

Procedure:

1.) Open a new document of any size. The size of this image is width-480px and height-275px.

2.) Create a new layer and fill the layer with white color.

 

3.) Select the white colored layer and right click the layer and choose the Blending options.

Select the gradient overlay option and adjust the following settings:

Blend mode-Normal, Opacity-100%, Gradient- Dark spectrum, Style- Linear, Angle- 90 and scale-100%

4.) Create any number of Heart shapes or any shapes. This example is for six heart shapes.

Select the ‘custom shape tool’ and select the filled heart shape and draw a Heart.

5.) Fill the shape with white color. Create five other copies and name them cop1, copy2, copy3, copy4, copy5. So there are totally six shapes.

See that the shapes are arranged in following order!

Select the original shape and make the following adjustments:

6.) Adjustments to be made for original shape:

(a.) Drop shadow (b.) Inner shadow (c.) Inner Glow (d.) Bevel and Emboss (e.) Satin (f.) Gradient Overlay

 

a.) Drop shadow settings:

Blend mode- Multiply

Color-black

Opacity-12%

Angle-120

Distance and speed- 0px

Size-13px

 

b.) Inner shadow settings:

Blend mode- Multiply

Color-black

Opacity-75%

Angle-120

Distance and size- 5px and choke- 0px

 

c.) Inner Glow settings:

Blend mode- Overlay

Opacity- 77%

Color- White

Technique- softer

Source- edge

Choke-0px and size- 5px

Range-50px

 

d.) Bevel and Emboss settings:

Style- Inner Bevel

Technique- smooth

Depth- 261%

Direction- up

Size- 7px and soften- 12px.

Angle-120 degree and altitude-30 degree

Set the highlight mode as’ Overlay’ and color as ‘white’ with opacity- 15%.

Set the shadow mode as ‘Multiply’ and color as ‘Black’ with opacity- 75%.

 

e.) Satin settings:

Set the Blend mode to Overlay and color to white with opacity-50%.

Set the angle to 19 degree at a distance of 11px and size set to 14px.

Select the ‘Invert’ option under contour.


f.) Gradient Overlay settings:

Set the Blend mode to Normal with Opacity as 100%.

Use the Gradient- Foreground to Transparent

Set the style as Linear at angle-90 degree scaled to 100%.

Note: Set the mode of this layer to- ‘Multiply’.

 

7.) Adjustments to be made for Copy1 Layer:

Set the same settings as above for this layer also except Gradient overlay.

Gradient overlay settings:

Set the Blend mode as Multiply, Opacity- 75%, Style- Linear, and Angle at 90 degree and scale it to 100%.

Use the Gradient style - Violet, Orange.

Set the mode of this layer to ‘Exclusion’.

 

8.) Adjustments to be made for Copy2 Layer:

Set the same style as the Copy1 layer.

Right click the copy1 layer and use the ‘copy layer style’ option and select the copy2 layer and use ‘paste layer style’ option.

Set the mode of this layer to – ‘Multiply’.

 

9.) Adjustments for Copy3 layer:

Use the same settings as above as applied to copy2 layer but set the Blend mode to – ‘Overlay’.

 

10.) Adjustments to be made for Copy4 Layer:

Set the same settings as above for this layer also except Gradient overlay.

Gradient overlay settings:

Set the Blend mode as Exclusion, Opacity- 100%, Style- Linear, Angle–127 degree and scale it to 10%.

Use the Gradient style - Violet, Green and Orange.

Set the Blend mode for this layer as ‘Darken’ in layer box.

 

11.) Adjustments to be made for Copy5 Layer:

Set the same settings as above for this layer also except Gradient overlay.

Gradient overlay settings:

Set the Blend mode as Normal, Opacity- 100%, and Style- Linear and Angle–90 degree and scale it to 100%. Select the Reverse option for Gradient.

Use the Gradient style – Foreground to Transparent.

Set the Blend mode for this layer as ‘Color’ in layer box.

 

Once all the shapes are adjusted, you can move them around, scale them and rotate them to blend with each other. You can then merge the layers.
