Open University
Every one should have proper education. But opportunities of education cannot be provided to all in a country like india. There are various causes for a person being uneducated. One such is that he does not have the chance of getting a formal education. The Open University is a boon to such paople.
The aim of the Open University is to bring education to the door steps of the needly. In our country such people are in large numbers. For a number of reasons many children are not sent to schools. In some families their earnings are necessary for survival some give up their studies in the middle of their career. There are others who wish to improve their educational qualifications after they get employed. House wives often wish to be educated. For all these people the open university is of great help. The first Open University was started in britan in 1971. India wanted to fallow suit. A commission was appointed under the chairmanship of sri G.Parthasardhi, vice chacellor of jawaharalal nehru university to examine the establishment of Open Universities. In 1982 A.P.State government sent prof.G.Rami reddy to britain. The givernment approved his recommendations and legislation was made to start an Open University. In 1982 the then president Sri.Jail Singh inaugurated the Open University in nagarjuna sagar. But the courses of university were started in Hyderabeb. Thus our state became the first one to start an Open University. In the Open University any one abhove the age of 20 can have education. B.A, B.SC. and B.Com. Courses are available at the graduation level. P.G. courses and reserch facilities are also made available. To join in Open University a candidate has to pass the eligibility test conducted by the University. These tests are held every year. After getting the eligibility one can pursue the course one likes. The Open University provides study meterial required by the candidates. Contact classes are conducted for the students at selected centres. Here students can have the help of lecturers. There are no colleges affiliated to open university. There are no teaching staff. Academic plans are prepared by experienced professors and lecturers. Study material is provided. Study centres are equipped with Audio and Visual equipment. Recently the open university in our state was named after Dr.Ambedkar. The university is offering a number of coureses. A large number of students are benefited all over the state.
