Your approach in group discussion
a) Your ultimate aim is to get success in Group Discussion. So you must plan your strategies to pull the string in favour. You must make meaningful contribution in the group. Now meaningful contribution doesn’t have any meaning unless your evaluator thinks so. Be sure you were audible enough for him to hear you clearly. It is a common complaint that “I did not get a chance to speak”.
b) Remember you cannot afford to wait for your chance to come. You have to create chance for yourself. Even if you are not very assertive type you need to be so during those 30 minutes period. Do not miss the opportunity you are getting.
c) Get into the situation fully and according to the demand of the situation. Keep one thing always in your mind that merely speaking in the discussion is not enough you have to speak meaningfully. Group Discussion is a Forum where your knowledge and reasoning along with your presentation skills are being tested simultaneously.
d) It is a common misconception that speaking frequently and loudly in the discussion can ensure success. Always remember key to success is the quality of your contents and the way in which you have delivered your presentation. You must be logical in your approach. Displaying some leadership qualities in your character in your boon, so develop and demonstrate it positively when required.
e) Sometimes group start deviating from the topic and may go haywire. You act like a true path guide in such a situation and bring back on group on right path. These moves will take you above others. In time of chaos a person who restores order to the group is appreciated. Your level of participation in a fish market kind of scenario can be low, but your degree of influence must never be low.
f) No two people are alike so their thinking. When eight people are talking together on a controversial topic, it is never easy to arrive at consensus. But what is counted is your effort to bring the group to a common understanding. This will display your ability to work with people in a team. In most work-situations you will have to work with people in team, accept joint responsibilities and take decisions as a group, which should benefit the organization as whole.
