Women of different ages experience vaginal dryness for a variety of reasons. For example menopause, stress at work, pregnancy and childbirth and even hormonal imbalance and improper diets. Excessive liquor and cigarettes also contribute, at time to vaginal dryness. While a lot of medicines and over the counter creams are available, there are many food options too which will help to restore the lubrication of the vagina. Some of these foods are as follows.

Water
Simple as it may sound, we often forge to consume the requisite amount of water. This dries up our body. So don’t forget to take at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep the vagina moist.

Omega3 fatty acids
Fish like tuna and salmon are rich in these fats. This fat helps to restore vaginal lubrication. However, don’t consume too much of these fish because they contain a huge amount of mercury in it. Oils like olive oil and primrose oil also have these fats and could be used for cooking purposes.

Probiotic yogurt
This also helps in reducing the dryness by maintaining the right pH balance that the vagina needs. Fermented cottage cheese, cabbage, fermented rice and soya are also consumed by women in Japan to keep the vagina lubricated.

Phytoestrogens
These are found in plants and in food like soya milk and soya beans. Fruits like apples and nuts and pulses also contain phytoestrogens. When in the body they act like the hormone estrogen which helps to reduce the dryness of the vagina.

Vitamin E
Avocado and nuts, rich in vitamin E also help to keep the vagina moist.

Herbs
Tincture made by motherwort, an European herbal plant, is also an effective remedy. You could also boil its leaves in water and drink the cooled water on a regular basis to improve the lubrication.
