VOC
Volatile organic components-shortly known as VOC is that killer which is found in paints. It is very dangerous to health, if inhaled and causes many harms to environment.  Then, why is this substance used in paints? VOC helps paint to dry soon and maintain its surface more polish, thus making painting process perfect. Dark colours have its amount in high and hence try to avoid dark colours as much as possible in bed rooms and living room.

Precautions to be taken
Main components of paint are lead, cadmium and VOC. They are harmful to health. So, while painting, the painter should use a mask to avoid inhalation of escaping poisonous gases. The amount of such gases will be high during painting and till it is dried up. So keep the doors and windows fully open while painting and till it dries completely. Avoid paint to fall on body. Never use that room before 1 week. Never allow children to play with paint or inhale its gases. Seeing its lovely colours, they may be attracted to them, which is again more dangerous.

Healthy painting
Now it is possible to choose paints suited to nature. Paints that can reduce heat inside rooms, antibacterial paints that prompts cockroach and bacteria to flee from house etc are examples of healthy paints, now available in market. Some varieties like scratch free and odourless paints are also available nowadays.

Poisonless paints
New trend is to use paints that cause less harm to environment and health. Some paints even claim than they are 100% healthy even to pregnant women and infants. Such paints are soluble and are used in many countries. Its highlights are absence of lead and low intensity of smell. It is really a great idea to market paints which claim to have no lead or use of such substances in minimum quantities. It occurred when several questions were raised against health and environment related problems of paints.

Protection for outer walls
Outer walls have direct contact with sunlight, dust and rain and hence they need extra protection, particularly against climatic variations. To reduce fissures, to decrease heat inside the house, to protect it from ultra violet rays, fungus, bacteria etc are the claims given by exterior paints. Choose one type best for you and your pockets. Decorative paint is one among the latest. A pillar or a wall can be painted using glitter paint and metallic shades of almost all colours are available in market. Though, many people opt to buy such different shades, it is difficult to maintain them clean. Almost all exterior paints can be cleaned using water and soap with the help of a sponge.

Giving colours to rooms

Always select colours according to fashion and trends. But prefer light colours more, since they are less expensive than dark colours and VOC content is also low comparing to dark ones. Also, if once given dark colour, it costs more to return to a light shade. If avoided dark shades and given cool ones in different designs, it will give 'classic look' to rooms and freshness to eyes.
Never give dark colours to bed room. But if you still insist to use dark colour, paint the wall behind your head with your preferred one. Doctors say, if we wake up in the morning seeing dark colours, it may cause restlessness to mind. But you can give fluorescent and attractive colours to kids' study room. Now different shades are available to make children's room attractive and fashionable and prompts kids to use that room for study purposes. You can even paint beautiful pictures or make cartoon posters on the wall to make kids' room impressive.
Use dark colours colours only in small areas like  a store area or space under the staircase. You can even use dark colours in small spaces in rooms to make light colours more impressive. Light colours are stress relieving and they make an illusion that room is more spacious while even a large hall shaded with dark colours appear to be small and dark. Light colours on wall plus light colour floor tiles really make room more spacious, lively and broad. Light colours reflect light while dark ones absorb them making room appear more dark.
Light pink and light blue shades are more preferable for rooms while we can use dark colours to show a projected design or architecture inside the room or a construction outside. Latest trend is to use design paints instead of giving brighter ones. Now, almost all companies are giving designer paints, that differ from non-polished textures to marble polished ones. Choose one that suits you best and make your dream home a 'heaven'.
