The life of a Street Hawker
Introduction
Street Hawkers are found in every corner of the roads selling various types of items. They donot have any particular place to sell their items. They visit the public places and the places which are crowded with the people and sell their items in front of the people. They sell items like the food and other different articles which a person needs in their daily life.They are considered as the weaker section of the society. They have to work hard everyday to earn their living. They have to bear the harsh words of the people. They shout very loudly so that the people living at the top of the apartments can hear their voice.
His appearance
They are not very clean. They had to wear clothes which do not fit their body. Some of them even wear torn clothes or the clothes offered to them by other people. Sometime they wear a turban on their head to bear the heavy load and to protect their head from the load. Street hawkers especially those who sell meat, fish and oter such items are very untidy. Their hands and feet are so dirty that sometime we feel not to purchase anything from them. But we cannot do that we have to purchase items from them whether they are dirty or unclean. They sell aticles at very low price as compared to the shopping malls and other deprtmental stores.
The articles he sells
Street Hawkers mainly sell items which we need in our daily lives. Like fruits, vegetables, clothes, utensils, soap and other eatables. He used to carry those articles in a cycle trolly and pulled that trolly in a public places, in residential area, in small lanes with houses, in societies and throughout the streets so that every body can see the items they sell and can purchase from them. One can do a huge bargaining from them. They sell items at low price to the customer.They never loose their customer. They try to satisfy their customer. Sometime the hawker even runs in heavy loss. Many thought that the articles they sell are not of good quality but they sell good articles. Every citizen of our society is very much dependent on them especially for the eatables items. They serve the small scale industries by purchasing roducts from them and sell them in the market.
How he hawks the whole day
Hawkers are very clever. They know how to attract customer. Those hawkers who sell toffees, chocolate, balloon, ice-cream and toys gather near the schools, parks and other public place where they could draw the attention of the children and the passerby where they can show off their products and never tell badly about their products. They always say that they sell the top quality products. The adult can understand their policy of selling but the child often falls into their trap nd they purchase items from them which children think are needed for them. Many hawkers play various tricks to sell their items. Many hawkers who sell eatables offer their customer to taste the food and they know that the customer will purchase it. Some of the hawkers give offer of buy one get one free and in this way they sell their items in few minutes. Some of them please the customer with their sweet words and funny jokes. They visit all the important places of the society. They never sell items in credit. They do not have any permanent shelter.
His habits
Street Hawkers do not maintain any hygiene. They just grab their seats beside the drain or just put a big wooded rack on the top of the drain and display their articles on the wooden slab and started hawking for the items. Those who sells eatable items like fruits, sweets and other street food never cover their items and often we found that flies and other insects sits on those food which can harm us very much. But they do not care for the cleanliness. But still people and children rush towards them with the money in their pocket to purchase those unhygienic products. They often use harsh and bad words which sometime make people angry to purchase anything from them. Often they refuse to give change of money if one purchase very small amount and cannot pay them the exact amount.
How street Hawker serve us
Street Hawkers who move from one corner of the street to other corner brings goods to our door step. They serve the people of the society but still we cannot trust them fully though they did good service for us. They can cheat people by selling stale food and other used items. They never care for the weather. They visits in every weather either it is hot summer, rainyday or even in chilly winter. They are very regular person of the society who serves us properly. Sometime when it is not possible for us to go out and purchase goods from other shops we then purchase goods from them standing at our door step. They always help us in all situations. They sell goods at cheap rate which is very much benefitted for the middle class and lower class people.
Conclusion
Street Hawkers are very poor and they are the regular figure of the society. After selling articles they hardly had something left in their hand. The government charges some amount as a tax from them those who had a fixed place on the corner of the road.Government put many rules upon them. Sometime even paying the tax they had to run from one corner of the road to another when the police approach towards them. They even had to pay fine if they break the rules. Street Hawkers are very popular in big cities also. But people very rarely gathered infront of them to buy articles because they are very untidy. They are also the part of our society. They had to take license from the Municipal for selling their items. Those sellers who want to make a regular customer visits only to one particular place to meet their regular customer.
