I had a very amusing experience when I was staying with my uncle during a short visit to Lucknow. One day he took out his family by car to look for a new house. He wanted to shift from the house he was living in. there were five of us in all, including him, my aunty, their two small children and I. we had all dressed up well in order to create a favorable impression on the landlords we were to visit.

We went from house to house in a new locality, but found no vacant house to our liking. Finally we saw an attractive house. There was a ’To Let’ sign in front of the left side of it. My uncle asked us to wait in the car while he went to enquire about it. He opened the gate and moved in. the gate made a little sound as he closed it behind him.

As I had said above, he was in his excellent suit and looked smart. He had spent fifteen minutes in choosing his tie and another ten in deciding upon the pair of shoes he should wear. So there he was now smartly moving towards the verandah.

All of a sudden, like a bolt from the blue, there appeared an Alsatian dog. He did not seem to appreciate my uncle’s good intentions or confident manner of entering the house. So he went at him.

Now I must tell you that my uncle is a little fat, and has a brave heart. He is quite fearless. He can face anyone. But dogs ara another matter. The sight of a barking dog unnerves him completely. He loses all his courage when a dog comes at him. In fact , that is the only occasion you can see him running.

On this occasion, as soon as the Alsatian dog gave a loud bark, my uncle turned back, swift as lightening. You would think a tiger was pursuing him. He was pale and frightened. He ran with all his might to the nearest wall. I have never seen him more agile and quicker in his movements. In an instant he was sitting on the 6-foot wall. God knows how he did it.

There he sat in all his glory , in fine suit and in fear. We were all laughing at his undignified and fearful condition. The dog stood below barking at him, as he did his best to keep out of the dogs reach. His half-hearted sounds could not scare the dog away and the barking went on without let up.

Presently the house owner appeared. As he approached my uncle he was filled with great surprise. He seemed quite amused. He could no understand why such a smart man could be in that funny situation. So he asked him what had brought him there. My uncle first requested him to call the dog away. This was done at once. Next my uncle stammered that he was looking for a house. He could hardly say this clearly. It took the other man a few minutes to understand.

But it was of no use. My uncle had by then decided that this was not the house he could be happy in. Indeed, even if the vacant portion was offered free, he would have declined it. He could live anywhere with anyone or anything. But never with a dog!!
When he returned to the car , he found us all laughing our heads away. Our sides were aching with laughter. He could not stand it. He shouted at my aunty to have sense. He shouted at the children too. But we shrieked with laughter. My uncle is so good natured that within a short time even he was laughing at his experience. Indeed when he describes it even today, he makes it more amusing and dramatic.

Well I did not stop with that. Later when I returned home I told about my uncles experience to every soul at my home. Also to be noted is this. I was seeking admissions in a bigger and a better school. I was awaiting the usual procedures of screening tests and interviews. On the day of my interview, the interviewer asked me about my talents and why I am leaving my previous school, what do I know about this school, my family background, my favorite personality and so on. I had quite obviously answered my favorite person is my uncle because I love him loads for what and who he is even today. The answer to may talent was I hold a good hand at drawing. I was immediately given a paper and a pencil to showcase my talent. At once I put down to paper the idea  that struck me. Yeah it was funny, every one at school office was found laughing. I drew a dog chasing my uncle. Very obvious I was given a seat for my creativity and homour behind the drawing
