Work is worship
Even as a young boy, you should know that work is important. Any work and every kind of work are important. There is no work that is not important. There is no work that is below your dignity. But some people think that certain types of work brings them same. They look down upon work like cleaning the vessels, sweeping the floor or washing the clothes. They hate other types of work like cleaning the toilets, cleaning the drain, and so on. Therefore they avoid doing such work. There are even others who do not like doing any type of work. They think that it is shameful on their part to do any work.
But this is all nonsense. They just do not understand that all work is good work. No honest work is shameful or disgraceful. In fact every honest work has its own dignity. It is even said that work is worship. Therefore ou must feel proud of your work. You must thank God that he gave you an opportunity to do that work. It is so because; it is God’s plan that you have to do that piece of work. Everyone cannot the same work. Everyone cannot have the same work. Every one of us has to work in different places and different positions. Everyone cannot have a white collar job. So, every one should do his share of work. And he should do it in all sincerity. This leads him to success in his life. We have to remember another fact also. A man in judged not by the work he does. He is judged by the way he does his work.
The individuals of a society are like the different parts of a big a complex machine. There may a thousand little parts in that machine. If even one of them is out of order or stops working, the entire machine is out of order. In the same way, if one individual stops doing his work, the entire society becomes sick. Therefore every one should do his duty. That way, he contributes to the welfare of the society.
The fame should work in the farm and grow food. If he thinks farming is below his dignity, where can you and I get food from?
The machinist should work with the machine. If he thinks it shameful to do that dirty work, the factory has to be closed. Thousands of workers go out of work. Their families have to serve. The production is affected. The country suffers as a result.
In the same way, the sweeper, the washer man, to gardener, the plumber, the electrician, the carpenter, the mason, the doctor and so on should do their respective work. Then only every one in the society will be happy.
Moreover, do you know that great men like the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi used to do all his work himself? He used to make his clothes, wash them. He used to sweep the floor. He used to clean his toilets. What better example in needed to prove that no work is mean or shameful?
He wanted to be independent that way. By his own example, he wanted to show the importance of doing one’s own work. It is said Abraham Lincoln used to polish his own shoes. Vinobabave used to sweep the floor himself. All these men of the world have showed us dignity of labor through their own examples. Let us be ready to do any work that comes our way. We have to do it as our sacred duty.
