Awards and Honours
Our country employs a number of awards to honour great men and women of our country, whose action and deeds have made us proud and glad. These awards play an important role in our national life, as they prove to be not only a source of encouragement for the extra-ordinary, but also an inspiration for the ordianary.
I hope that now a days people do not have time to remember such awards. So i have decided to post a brief information of some of the Awards given by the Indian Government.
BHARAT RATNA AWARD:
The President of India gives the Bharat Ratna Awards, the highest civilian honour, for exceptional service towards advancement of Art, Literature and Science, and in recognition of PublicService of the highest order.
PADMA AWARDS:
These awards namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shree are given for exceptional and distinguished service of high order in any field. The Padma Awards are announced on the eve of the Republic day.
NATIONAL BRAVERY AWARDS:
This was started in 1957 by the Indian Council for Child Welfare. The award was to recognize and honour children who performed outstanding deeds of bravery and selfless sacrifice.
GALLANTRY AWARDS :
The Ashok Chakra series of awards aare open to civilians. These awards are biannual and are given on the Republic Day and Independence Day.
SAHITYA ACADEMY AWARDS :
The Sahitya Academy Award was instituted in the year 1954. These awards recognize the most outstanding bookss of literary merit published in any of the major Indian languages.
DADA SAHEB AWARDS:
Dada Saheb Phalke is the founder of the world's largest Film Industry. The most prestigious award of the Indian Film Industry is named after him. This award is given to the person who have shined in film industry
DRONACHARYA AWARDS:
The Dronacharya Award was instituted in 1985 to honour eminent coaches, who have outstandingly and consistently motivated sportspersons to the highest performance in international events.
ARJUNA AWARDS:
The Arjuna Awards was instituted in 1961 as the highest national recognition for outstanding performance in sports and games at the international level.
