Royal Geographical Society, is a  society which is  dedicated especially for the advancement of geographical science and also for the  improvement and the diffusion of geographical knowledge. This society was founded in the year 1830, and it is based in central London and  around the United Kingdom this society has five regional chapters.The image below shows the head quarters of the Royal Geographical Society.

In 1830 this scoiety was founded in 1830  as an institution to promote the advancement of geographical science.This society also starrted as  a dining club in London, where some of the select members held informal dinner debates on current scientific issues and ideas,like many learned societies during that time.It was under the partonage of King William IV, this society was named as The Royal Geographical Society and later in 1859, it was granted its Royal Charter under Queen Victoria .By 1912, the Society moved to its current location, in Lowther Lodge.

At present This society has about 15,000 members, and this makes  the Society as the largest and most active of the scholarly geographical societies in the world. The main work they do is that  it advances geography through supporting geographical research, education and outdoor learning, public engagement and policy. With the help of this society  special lectures are held for children, secondary students, and undergraduates.

The main purpose of the society is subjected to the theme of ‘advancement of geographical science’.This  society is a major organizer of overseas research, and they aslo focus on conservation issues and priorities for development in countries like Iran, Pakistan, Australia, and Brazil. Apart from this this society is also responsible for running the Expedition Advisory Center, which holds expedition-planning workshops at universities all over the country, and it mainly  provides training and advice to undergraduates undertaking field research trips and others embarking on adventures such as climbing and caving.
