Forgive and Forget is a modern day necessity
Forgive and Forget has been the advice of many people over the years. This was what was taught to us by our parents, elders and teachers very early in our childhood laying the foundation for a better future for all of us. This is also the advice given by saints and godmen to young and old alike in todays world. You can find these saying in all books especially those related to self hypnosis and is also advocated as a tool to cut down the stress levels of a individual.
Many people follow this proverb to the maximum extent possible. All of you may be wondering that when we do not follow many good things preached by our elders, how come we are following this proverb to the utmost possible extent. The reason is simple. Following the proverb Forgive and Forget has got more to do with a persons own limitations than with any good intentions. In some cases following the forgive and forget policy just works out in the well being of the people and those cases are rare. It is either a coincidence or just works out accidentatlly. Some examples of limitations which force a individual to adopt forgive and forget policy are:-
Money Lenders:- Let us take the example of a money lender and borrower. The borrower and money lender may not be in the best of terms. They may be having mutual dislike for each other but still they forget everything because it is very important for both of them to transact if they are survive. The borrower has to borrow money from a money lender if he is not able to source a loan from a bank or from any friend or relative. Similarly Money Lender even if he dislikes the borrower has to lend to the borrower, for he survives by earning interest as the money lender cannot gain anything by merely keeping the money with him.
Boss and Subordinate:- The subordinate may not like the boss because of his dominating approach, but he has to forget everything for the sake of his family and more so if he is the sole breadwinner of the family. The subordinate just to keep his job, or to get small favours in the form of promotion of increment has no other option but to forget the boss harassment and forgive him. Similarly the boss may not like his subordinate, but has to forget the repeated negligence of subordinates if the work has to move smoothly. If the boss himself is efficient and cannot manage a single thing without the subordinate he has no other option but to exercise the forget and forgive well.
Dependence of elderly parents on their sons:- Retired parents with no income to look after themselves are dependent on their sons. If even the sons do not look after them well, they have to adopt the forgive and forget policy and try to be content in whatever facilities they are offered even if it is not good enough. If the husband of a housewife has an affair with another woman, the housewife has no other option but to forgive and forget in the her own interests and in the interests of their kids, because the housewife and kids are emotionally and financially dependent on the husband.
Forgive and Forget approach is a modern day necessary to cover our own limitations.
