HATIAN CULTURE
Haitian is mountain country. It is located at second largest island in the west indie near Caribbean Sea. Haitian is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Haitians suffer from decades under Duvalier’s rule. Most of the Haitians speak Creole language and some of them speak even French, but less. Haitians are very expressive and speak loudly. No Haitian misinterprets that as anger. Religion is the powerful force in the Haitian Culture. So most of the Haitians are Catholics and the remaining are Protestants.
Haitians practice of voodoo for curing of the illness as well as distress and mental illness are common among all the Haitians. So there is no difference with the religions. The Haitian who is a priest or priestess cure the patients illness that is depression and mental distress, by bathing the patients with special oils and lotions and clearing the environment of bad spirits with candle lights. Due to difficult life circumstance of family members, It is common for Haitian individuals to experience direct effects on their mental health. Haitian women will be higher depressive than the Haitian men due to lack of understanding the gender differences in taking responsibilities roles and support in the family . In Haitians families, children are treated as gods gift and mothers will do anything for children to meet their children’s basic needs even by neglecting basic needs of themselves.
