It is a pity – our national bird
I am an Indian. Every country has its national bird. Our national bird is pea-cock. It is a very big and beautiful bird. It is found all over India. A pea-cock has very beautiful feathers of bright blue co lour. They shine when they are spread. A pea-cock has a crown on its head. The pea-cock is called the king of birds. It has a very long and beautiful tail. There are moon-like spots on the feathers of pea-cock.
Pea-hen is smaller in size than the pea-cock. Its tail is not long. It dose not dance. It has no crown on its head it is not beautiful as the pea-cock.
Pea-cocks generally live in green fields and gardens. They eat small insects and snakes found in the field and garden. They are knows as friends of human beings. They are also the friends of farmers. They eat the insects which are harmful to crops.
Pea-cock feels very happy when the sky is overcast with clouds. It begins to dance seeing clouds in the sky. It makes loud noise of joy. A pea-cock is considered a sacred bird in our country. In epic, it is considered as vehicle of Lord Muruga. Government is not allowed to hunt and kill this bird. But it is a pity that some persons kill this bird. Its meat is served in big hotels. Our government should put a ban on killing the pea-cock.
