Shane Watson should be Man of Series
Shane Watson was rightly declared Man of the Match in Champions Trophy Final. The biggest surprise however was Ricky Ponting being chosen Man of the Series. Let us look at comparitive figures of Ricky Ponting And Shane Watson.
Batting Comparision.
1) Ricky Ponting was the highest run getter with 288 runs, Shane Watson was just marginally behind with 265 runs as the second highest run getter.
2) Ricky Ponting hit 26 boundaries and 3 sixes, while Shane Watson was the bigger and better hitter with 25 boundaries and 11 sixes.
3) While Ricky Ponting finished with a bagging average of 72, Shane Watson has the better average of 88.33
4) Shane Watson's batting strike of 91.06 was better than Ponting's 78.68
Bowling Comparision:-
1) Shane Watson took 6 wickets in the tournament, the highest for Australia
2) Watson was also the regular bowler for Australia having bowled 33.4 overs out of his quota of 40 overs
3) Watson had a bowling average of 25.16, a very good economy rate of 4.48 per over and a strike rate of 33.6 balls per wicket.
He also played the big matches better than Ponting, top scoring in semi finals and finals, scoring unbeaten centuries in both batting throughout the innings.
Considering the above factors, Shane Watson should have been declared Man of Series.
